You Too Can Develop a Mastermind's Skills
Here in the UK there is a television program called
"Mastermind". You may have seen it where you live too.It
involves individuals being quizzed in two rounds of questions,
one on a specialist subject of their choice, the other general
knowledge.
The questions are pretty tough and it takes a special person to
go through the rounds and on to become Mastermind Champion. To
learn all about their chosen topics takes dedication and a
determined approach. But the fact that it is won by people from
all walks of life, including train drivers, truck drivers and a
London Cabbie, shows that anyone can apply themself that way if
they so wish.
And a contestant this week particularly emphasized what can be
achieved. He was introduced as an artist and translator but on
being interviewed it transpired there was more to it than that.
He was in fact a retired police officer who was now working in
the areas mentioned. He had followed up an interest in languages
he gained at school to now be able to translate from "six or
seven" different languages into English.
But his achievements as an artist were even more impressive. He
is a respected and skillful painter of landscapes. But asked
about how that came about his response was surprising.
At school, as he put it, he was "hopeless" at art and was ranked
32nd out of 33 pupils. But he was fascinated by painting and so
decided later in life "to become an artist". He wanted to be
able to look at a scene and capture it on canvas. He wanted to
show the beauty of the countryside around his home town.
So quite simply he set about learning how to do it. He studied
and practised over and over until he became proficient, until
he could call himself an artist. And he succeeded.
The "hopeless" student is now an accomplished artist.
But he did so because he had a goal, he visualized what
achieving it would mean to him, and he took action to reach
it.
So do you have a goal like that? Is there something you would
like to able to do?
Well whatever it is, you can do it. You need a definite goal,
a real vision of what attaining it will mean to you, and a plan
of how you will carry out whatever is needed to achieve it.
So start today and change your life for ever.

Here's an article for you that reveals a vital clue to
successful goal-setting:
One Word Can Change Everything!
I want to share a simple but important key in goal setting.
For many years, successful people have been writing down
their goals and affirmations. Then, they discipline
themselves to read those goals or affirmations every day.
This is one proven method of getting information into your
belief system.
Once something is in your belief system, it will become
evident in your life. It's not magic; it's just the way the
mind works. We will always evidence in our lives what we
hold in our belief system.
Some call it "belief system," while others refer to it as
"core beliefs." The Bible refers to it as the "heart." In
fact, one verse states, "As he thinks in his heart, so is
he."
Regardless of how you choose to label it, this is the way
the mind works. As a result, people have been writing down
their goals for many years, in order to get information
into their heart.
They write things like, "I am going to be successful," or,
"I will loose 30 pounds this summer." They say, "I am going
to do this," or "I'm going to be that."
When you write down your goals or affirmations, a great key
is to use the word, "because." The word "because" is a very
important element in things that we believe. Those last
two statements probably didn't have much of an impact on
you, and I agree. After reading them, you may have even
thought, "Why?" And that's a good point.
Without a reason, the mind disputes the affirmation.
The word, "because" is a very important element in things
that we hear. If I add the word, "because," my statement
now has a logical reason to be believed.
Studies show that when someone goes to a location with a
long line and then asks someone in line if they can get in
front of them that about 50% of the time the person asked
would agree, and say, "Okay."
However, if, when asking to cut in line they add the word,
"because," the acceptance jumps from 50% to 90%! "Can I
get in front of you because I am really in a big hurry?"
Or, "Can I get in front of you because I am already ten
minutes late?" The studies found that even if it was a
lousy reason that followed the word "because," 90% of the
people would still let the person asking go ahead of them.
Our minds are trained and conditioned so that when we hear
a statement followed by the word, "because," we assume that
a very logical explanation will follow; we know a
justifiable reason for the statement must exist. That's
how our minds react to the word, "because." We will much
more readily accept a statement that's followed by the
word, "because."
You can try it out right now! I'm going to give you a
statement, first without the word, "because," and then, a
statement with the word, "because." You decide which one
has more impact. First, here's a statement without using
the word, "because." Using positive affirmations will
change your life. That statement had very little impact to
your brain. But, now, pay attention to the impact when I
use the word, "because."
Using positive affirmations will change your life because
you will alter your core beliefs and thus change your
outlook, interpretation and reactions to life.
Do you see the difference?
Using that little word, "because," makes your goals or
affirmations real and believable. Our minds perceive it as
a very good reason to believe the statement. Writing
down your goals or affirmations is a very good method
because it helps to get that information into your mind and
eventually into your heart, your belief system. Adding the
word, "because" allows your mind to accept that information
more readily, because your mind perceives it as justifiable.
Once that information is in your heart, it will become
evident in your life, because, "as he thinks in his heart
so is he."

How To Manage Your Tasks Effectively
I hope you enjoyed the item in last week's newsletter about
eliminating the things that waste your time each day. Taking
the necessary steps to create more productive time will be of
huge benefit to you in all areas of your life.
But there is much more that you can learn about effective
time management from the course, "Super Tactics of Time
Management Experts". Why not take a look by following the

One key aspect of taking control of your time is that of
learning to manage your tasks effectively.
Some tasks will be straightforward such as "Phone John" or
"Reply to Jane's E-mail". But others may be more complex.
So you need to have a way of managing them so that your time is
spent in the most productive manner. So before you even start
any task you must put in place a Task Management Plan.
You therefore need to consider the following:
- What is the task? You must clearly define what the task
involves and what outcome you seek to achieve.
- Have a plan. Carefully plan out the task detailing exactly
what you need to do in order to reach the desired end result.
- What do you need? Identify the resources you need and set
about ensuring that you have them available. You may need to
involve other people. Do you need to brief them or to arrange
times for their input?
- Define the time-scale for getting the task done and allocate
time slots for the various parts. Have a schedule of what
needs to be completed at the times you have set.
- Ensure that you know what quality is required for any project
or finished item and have a way of achieving and measuring it.
- Put a process in place to monitor and assess your progress.
Schedule in set times for reviewing your work. See how you
are performing against your plan.
- Include some flexibility in the plan. Be prepared to make
adjustments to ensure completing the task. Remember that by
rushing to meet an unrealistic deadline you are more likely
to make mistakes or reduce the quality of your work. This is
bound to lead to wasted time later when dealing with the
consequences.
Managing your tasks and activities is essential if you wish to
get control of your time.Gain control and very soon you will
see how much extra time you are creating. So start now!
